There is something special about coming to God through the spirit in song and worship. It’s as if our soul communicates to God with melodious words that soothe the heart, heal the brokenness within and provide hope in even the direst of circumstances. As such, music can be a great tool to utilize when we feel hopeless and find ourselves standing in need of encouragement.
Christian Worship Songs for Inspiration and Hope
The following is a compilation of several encouraging worship songs including Christian rock songs about hope that all serve to impart hope and inspiration. They are just a small sampling of the many available songs and remind us again how blessed we are as believers to have such encouragement at the ready whenever we feel disheartened.
I Speak Jesus
This recently released praise song by Charity Gayle explains our desire to speak with and be in the presence of Jesus. Powerful lyrics of this song communicate the captivity of addiction and the despair of depression and anxiety and how each is overcome with the mere mention of His name. The last stanza of “I Speak Jesus” is particularly powerful and moving, it is as follows:
I just wanna speak the name of Jesus
Over every heart and every mind
‘Cause I know there is peace within Your presence
I speak Jesus
Living Hope
This song by Phil Wickham exemplifies how despondent and desperate our lives can be and how beneficial is the hope of Christ, our living hope. The opening lyrics of “Living Hope” tell the story better than any description could:
How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation, I turned to heaven
And spoke your name into the night
Then through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished, the end is written
Jesus Christ, my living hope
King of Kings
This beautiful song entitled “King of Kings” by Hillsong Worship is described by the group as a summarization of the entire story of the Gospel and the church. The song is packed full of theology and firmly rooted in scripture. It differs slightly from others on the list in that it looks mainly to the goodness of the Father God, not necessarily our own problems. Consequently, by focusing on God, we too can have hope in the future. It features powerful lyrics like the following:
Praise the Father, praise the Son
Praise the Spirit, three in one
God of glory, Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings
Shoulders
The song “Shoulders” by For King and Country depicts a lot of issues we can face in life that are disheartening and can break us down. Thankfully, our strength, our will to go on, our hope is not placed on our own shoulders or even on the mightiest of mountains that exist on earth, but instead firmly placed on God. As it says in Psalm 121:1-2 “I will lift mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” It is this verse that seems to be the impetus and inspiration for this lovely song, which includes the following, moving lyrics:
My help comes from You
You’re right here, pulling me through
You carry my weakness, my sickness, my brokenness on your shoulders
Your shoulders
My help comes from You
You are my rest, and my rescue
I don’t have to see to believe that You’re lifting me up on Your shoulders
Your shoulders.
All My Hope
If there was a song that could champion the cause of the downtrodden and speak to the most despondent among us, it's “All My Hope” by David Crowder. The motivation behind this particular song is as interesting as the song itself that falls into the Christian songs about hope and healing. The story was outlined by David Crowder himself as being based on his attending a party once that was thrown in honor of a recently released prisoner who had found Christ while imprisoned. His family and friends planned a get-together to honor his physical freedom and his spiritual rebirth, the prodigal returning. While most of us can’t say we have been in physical prison for crimes committed, we all know what it feels like to be burdened and discouraged and to be in a spiritual prison, not living in the hope or freedom we have been given in Christ. Therefore, we can all relate to this story and the lyrics of this powerful song:
I’m no stranger to prison
I’ve worn shackles and chains
But I’ve been freed and forgiven
And I’m not going back, I’ll never be the same
That’s why I sing
All my hope is in Jesus
Thank God yesterday’s gone
All my sins are forgiven
I’ve been washed by the blood
It is Well
This beloved song “It is Well” was originally written by Horatio G. Spafford who experienced immense personal tragedy, including losing first his son to pneumonia, his business to a fire and then lost four other children on a voyage at sea that met with peril. The song full of robust and meaningful lyrics has been recorded countless times throughout the years, including by Hillsong. However, knowing the personal tragedies that went into the creation of the song makes it that much more powerful as it truly is well with our soul, no matter what may befall us, because we place our hope in Christ. Here are a few of these classic lyrics that have been embraced by many throughout the ages yet still find their way into modern-day worship songs:
When peace like a river attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well with my soul
Be Encouraged With Christian Songs About Hope and Faith
In John 16:33, God’s word says “I have told you these things so that in me, you have peace. In this world, you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world.” Although this world might be full of tribulations and wrought with problems, we can have hope. The Christian songs about faith and hope listed above help us remember that fact and enter into fellowship with God, even when our souls are downcast within us. Don’t forget to purchase apparel from Love in Faith as well as another way to remind yourself how very blessed we are as followers of the one true God.
